Principal Engineer
WHAT WE OFFER YOU
Principal Engineer (m/w/d)
Location: Remote (EU) · Type: Full-time
About Us
beyondbots is a dynamic startup on a mission to redefine enterprise efficiency. We combine integration, automation, and AI to make our clients dramatically more productive — driving higher employee satisfaction and superior customer experiences.
We’ve already built a robust project business across Europe, supporting global enterprises and SMBs with solutions in process automation and AI. Now we’re taking the next step: launching a cutting-edge supply chain AI platform, purpose-built to automate and optimize enterprise operations. You’d join at the moment where project delivery meets product-building — and help shape both.
The Role - Principal Engineer
We’re a team of entrepreneurs that values tangible results and fast time to market. We’re looking for a like-minded Principal Engineer - a true builder who wants to shape our technical direction on two fronts: with our customers, as a forward deployed engineer designing and shipping real solutions on the front lines; and for our own product, designing the architecture and contributing to the development of our supply chain AI platform. 🙌
In the early phase you’ll deliberately work across both - that’s where the leverage is. Over time, the role can develop a clear focus on whichever side fits your strengths and our needs best: deep customer-facing solution engineering (built on our product), or core product development. You help decide which.
This is a senior, high-ownership role. You won’t just execute a spec — you’ll define the technical approach, make the calls, and own the outcome.
Please review the requirements carefully. Only applicants who meet the mandatory criteria will be considered. This is a full-time employment position — not a role for contractors or freelancers.
Who You Are
Mandatory requirements:
- Builder with a startup & growth mindset. You’re driven by the chance to build and scale a startup from the ground up. You thrive in a fast-paced environment where priorities shift, and you see ambiguity as an opportunity, not a problem. This is a demanding role — not the boring path. 😉
- Seasoned engineer and problem-solver. You’re a natural builder and technologist who wants to solve real-world problems — often directly alongside the customer. You bring typically 8+ years of engineering and architecture experience, ideally in full-stack or backend development.
- Strong across the stack. You’re proficient in at least two of: Python, Go, Rust, JavaScript or its derivatives (preferably TypeScript, Next.js, or React).
- AI-native in how you work. AI coding agents aren’t a nice-to-have for you — they’re essential. You know their value and contribute best practices from real experience.
- Applied AI fluency. You’re experienced in applying LLM/GenAI models in production-grade technical solutions and have a solid understanding of their underlying principles.
- Modern software architecture expertise. You bring a deep understanding of modern cloud, microservice, and Kubernetes architectures, APIs, and data integration/orchestration. You design sound technical architectures and deployment plans for customers and our product, derived from specific business challenges.
- Customer & product obsession. You thrive on direct client interaction — getting first-hand insight into their challenges and business processes (tech/AI adoption is the key) — and you translate those insights into product. You can explain complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
- Collaborative teammate. You contribute to a positive, ego-free culture, enjoy sharing knowledge, and empower the people around you. You communicate fluently in English and at a solid working level in German (B2; C1 is a plus given our DACH customer base).
This Role Is NOT for You If
- Process and tooling matter more to you than people and outcomes.
- You’re a pure coder who sees customer conversations as a distraction and has no track record of understanding business processes or customer problems.
- You’re a “PowerPoint architect” who hasn’t shipped code in years.
- You want to specialize narrowly from day one and avoid the messy breadth of an early-stage role.
- You treat AI coding agents as a gimmick or a threat rather than part of how you build.
Formal Requirements
- You hold a work permit for the European Union.
- Remote position within the EU, with regular on-sites — roughly once a month — in Munich or at client sites across Europe.
Nice to Have
- Leadership experience with technical teams.
- Deep understanding of complex enterprise (customer) architectures.
- Experience with TMS, ERP- and CRM-based business processes and their technical mapping.
- Experience in ML/DL.
What We Offer
- Massive impact. Be a key player shaping the product and technical direction of our start-up from day one.
- Real autonomy. Own your work and drive innovation — we back you 100%.
- Cutting-edge challenges. A modern stack and pioneering work with AI, ML, LLMs, and the latest frameworks.
- Team culture. A team that enjoys its work, in a politics- and ego-free zone.
- No legacy, pure innovation. The best tools, frameworks, and equipment — no technical debt to drag you down.
- Shared victory. Your high-stakes contributions are rewarded with an attractive bonus and employee stock option program (VSOP) — we win together.
